Red Dead Redemption - UI Redesign

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 ​is a western action adventure game, second to the series following the original Red Dead Redemption. Players play as character "Arthur Morgan" completing quests and missions to continue the story around the different villages and towns.  

​

The franchise Red Dead Redemption as a whole is one of my favorite franchises, so this was a project that I really enjoyed creating. 

​

I created a more easily navigated player HUD for the game based on my own knowledge as well as research into Red Dead Redemption 2 and the User Interface accessibility, to make the game more easily navigated by new players, therefore I made sure to create designs that are not only easily navigated but easily understandable using icons to convey meanings.

Work and Responsibilities 

  • Gathering and implementing ​information to create a more easily navigated UI.

​

  • Using research to better understand how UI is constructed and the reasoning behind it. 

​​

  • Create post-it investigations to outline what could be improved and develop hand drawn wireframe designs.

​

  • Develop High and Low fidelity wireframed and implement feedback.

​

  • Create interactive prototypes within Figma.

​

  • Implement final designs into Unreal Engine.

Prototypes

​Above are the prototypes I have made for the low fidelity versions of the new "Red Dead Redemption 2" HUD and Pause screens. Each individual prototype was heavily influenced by the scamps and wire-frames I had made in the pre-production of this project. This includes: 

​

  • Gathered information and implemented research into design.

​​​

  • Made screens for Red Redemption 2 while keeping necessary equipment and adding more necessary components to enhance better game play.

​

  • Changed screens to make them more visibly navigated.

​

  • Implemented targeted audience research into gameplay.

 

This prototype was designed to accommodate players who are new to games and to the franchise in general.
